Total Time: ~1.5 hours
Ingredients
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 (.25 oz) packages dry yeast
- 1 cup milk
- ¾ cup water
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- ¼ cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
Directions
- In a large bowl, stir together 2 cups of flour and the yeast.
- In a microwave-safe bowl or measuring cup, heat milk, water, oil, sugar, and salt until just lukewarm (not hot).
- Add the warm liquid to the flour mixture and beat until smooth—about 3 minutes.
- Gradually add 2–3 more cups of flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Dust a clean surface with flour, turn the dough out, and let it rest under an overturned bowl for about 10 minutes.
- Divide dough into 12 portions, shape into slightly flattened balls, and place on a greased baking sheet.
- Cover loosely and let rise until doubled in size (about 30–45 minutes, depending on room temp).
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake for 12–15 minutes, until tops are golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before slicing or serving.
Notes
- You can brush the tops with melted butter for extra softness and shine.
- These freeze beautifully—just thaw and reheat gently in the oven or microwave.
- Perfect for sandwiches, burgers, or dunking in soup.
